Many people think that pornography is really just a victimless crime and that it really has no detrimental effects. Everywhere you turn, and most prevalently on television, sex is a tool used to entertain, advertise, and get attention. Society is being bombarded with sex so much that we are becoming apathetic to its dangers that saturate our society today.


Pornography and our Culture
Porn used to be relegated to a video hidden in the bottom drawer, or a magazine under the mattress. Today, it's part of everyday life. The pervasiveness of porn has made sexiness — from subtle to raunchy — a much-sought-after attribute online, at school and even at work. It now serves as a kind of sensory wallpaper, something that many people don't even notice anymore.It has steadily elbowed its way into the limelight, with an impact that can be measured not just by the Internet-fed ubiquity of pornography itself but by the way aspects of the porn sensibility now inform movies, music videos, fashion, magazines, and celebrity culture.

The Addictions to Pornography

So just clicking on this article probably struck your interest somehow. Maybe it is because it seems Pornography is everywhere and you are trying to prevent it on your computer. Maybe you have a problem with Pornography. Maybe you know someone with a problem in porn. Whatever the reason, you cannot deny the word pornography as a very popular topic.


Do you think Porn is dangerous to our society? Do you think porn can be, just perhaps a danger to our children? The real threat comes from those who would take advantage of kids who naively reveal personal information about themselves. Rebellious preteens are especially at risk, because they may not take parental warnings seriously
. The more children who risks themselves to view porn, the more our society takes a risk as a whole to our morals and more importantly our families.


So we know that porn can be a danger to our children and families as well as ourselves of course. But is Porn really addictive? How much so? Is it more addictive then drugs?? Some of our Congress members have determined that online porn addiction is as bad as crack or heroin addiction. Pornography addicts have a more difficult time recovering from their addiction than cocaine addicts, since coke users can get the drug out of their system, but pornographic images stay in the brain forever. Pornography really does, unlike other addictions, biologically cause direct release of the most perfect addictive substance. The brain really does release certain chemicals in sexual arousal. The images can stay in our brain over a substantial period of time.


Regardless of any technical definition of internet porn, there is something clearly powerful about internet porn. Something simply anyone can do is just go in Google or Yahoo or MSN and type the word “Porn” in the search bar and see how many results come up. This is not just like picking up a magazine at a liquor store or going to an adult store. You cannot see “millions” of these stores just around the corner like the use of the internet.

So maybe we should just not type in porn? Sounds pretty simple right? Don’t type in any nasty words and you should be fine. However, you will see sexual ads displayed all over the internet, television, magazine and even the radio. Sex sells and it is just plain obvious. The advertisers know just how big sexual advertising is. So as you know, the sex industry can be just to overwhelming for some to handle. The costs of sexual addiction can range from emotional and physical health problems to legal, professional, and familial disorders. Many sex addicts suffer from broken relationships. Forty percent experience severe marital and other relationship problems. Even the partners of sex addicts may develop their own addictions and compulsions, psychosomatic problems, or depression and other emotional difficulties.


This is the reason I am writing about addictions to pornography. Actually it is addictions to sexual advertising which definitely can lead to addictions to pornography. This is a huge problem for our world and really needs to be paid attention to like never before. Getting the word out about these addictions and problems in our society is what I intend to do. I am sincerely hopeful this message spreads just as fast as the advertising sex ads, the release of these chemicals sex arousals in our brains and the growing popularity in the subject. You Can't Overpower Your Lust

To those of you who don't believe that Porn is a danger to our Society then I am guessing you view porn. Once people view Porn then we start thinking about lusting. Lusting is definitely a sin. In Mark 4:19 "lusts" are objects of desire. To experience God's grace, we must first recognize our need. (See "How can I tell if I'm getting addicted to sex or pornography?") We must turn to him and others for help. That's not easy. Perhaps you realize that you have a problem but still believe you can handle it alone. Guys hate to admit defeat. We don't want to ask for help.

You Can't Overpower Your Lust

The apostle Paul understood our predicament. He told the Romans, "I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing" (Romans 7:18-19). I'm not suggesting that Paul struggled with compulsive sexual behavior, but he did struggle with sin-just like the rest of us. And like the rest of us, he would make up his mind not to commit a certain sin ever again. Did he succeed? No way! Now, if the apostle Paul couldn't overpower his sin, why should you and I think we can?

Suppose you made up your mind you were going to make it through one day without lusting after a woman. On your way to work your eyes are drawn to the bikini-clad model greeting you from a billboard. A few moments later as you stop at an intersection, you aren't able to keep from noticing the attractively dressed young woman crossing the street.

At work a friend brags about the gorgeous babe he bedded the night before. As you order lunch, the waitress with the short skirt winks at you and smiles. When you get back to the office, a coworker eagerly shows you his favorite erotic image on the Internet.

"OK," you may be thinking, "maybe I can't beat it. But I can make myself better. I can reform my lust." As sinful human beings, our lustful appetites are so evil, they'll use God's good commands to tempt us. Like a rod stirring up dirt that has settled to the bottom of a jar of water, so God's law excites our lust. Forbidden things are more exciting. Women who are off-limits take on a greater appeal. God says don't and our lust says do. God says do and our lust says don't.

Yet when dealing with their lust, men sometimes think they can reform it. They deny its evil power.

You may grow as a Christian. You may become more like Christ in your spiritual nature. But in the flesh, in your sinful nature, you're no better than the day you trusted Christ. And because your lust is driven by sin, you can't reform it.

You Can't Starve Your Lust

One of the problems I have with a lot of recovery programs is that their primary emphasis is on abstinence. They think the key to defeating an addiction is to stop the behavior. Now, please don't misunderstand me. We can't control any addiction unless we stop acting out. But if that's all we do, it won't work. We'll simply change addictions. For example, our lust will transfer from sex to alcohol. And if we stop drinking, it will move on to shopping or work or gambling.

It's impossible to starve our lust to death. Until the day we're with the Lord, we'll struggle with sin.



Porn Prayer

The Lord's Prayer: The Lord's Prayer is a powerful and effective prayer that is frequently overlooked. Jesus taught his disciples to pray this prayer. It has elements of praise, worship, invocation of God's will, forgiveness, avoidance of temptation and protection from evil:

"This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. "Matthew 6:9-14

Jesus notes a very important action that should accompany prayer just after he tells his disciples this prayer:

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:15

Here are some reasons why every person should pray:

  • God commands us to
    Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:24

I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. 1 Timothy 2:8

Pray without ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5:17

  • Deploy God's abundance
    Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Matt 7:7-8
  • Appeal to God's mercy
    Exodus 32:11-14: Moses' prayer averts disaster from God
  • Follow Christ's example
    But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. Luke 5:16
  • Loose God's plan and bind Satan's plan
    "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:18-20

How to pray:

  • In the name of Jesus Christ: Jesus has given Christians the authority of his name. There is no other name higher than Jesus, and Jesus tells us to pray in His name (John 16:23-24).
  • With a repentant heart: Acts 8:22; Psalm 51:1-2
  • With praise: Most of Psalms contains many examples of praise in a prayer context; Praising God is a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare
  • With confession and thanksgiving: Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 , 1 Timothy 2:1
  • With faith and expectancy: Matthew 17:20; Luke 17:6 – Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountain!
  • With humility and earnestness: Supplication (Philippians 4:6-7, Colossians 4:12)
  • Persistently: Jesus illustrates this in his parable about the man knocking at his friend’s door late at night. The friend gets up and answers the door because of the man’s persistence (Luke 11:5-10). That is how we are to pray to God! Jesus also emphasizes this concept in the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8).

What to pray for:

  • Others' needs (intercession) Romans 8:26-27 , James 5:16-18
  • Healing
    if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16 (see James 5:14-20)

  • Protection against temptation
    Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. Mark 14:38

    And said to them, Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation. Luke 22:46

  • Wisdom, strength, faith and love
    I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:16-19

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Colossians 1:9

  • Revelation and wisdom
    I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength. Ephesians 1:16-19
  • Completion and perfection of faith
    Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith. 1 Thessalonians 3:10
  • Purity Hebrews 13:18, 2 Corinthians 13:7-9

What will hinder prayer?

  • Arrogance
    He does not answer when men cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked. Job 35:12
  • Cherishing sin / Sin
    If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened Psalm 66:18
  • Disobedience / Rebellion / hardening of heart toward God
    Then the LORD said to me, "There is a conspiracy among the people of Judah and those who live in Jerusalem. They have returned to the sins of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their forefathers. Therefore this is what the LORD says: `I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them. Jeremiah 11:9-11

One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.
Proverbs 28:9 NKJV

  • Failure to forgive others
    Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. Mark 11:24-25

    Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:36-38

  • Lack of faith
    But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:6
  • Mistreatment of spouse
    Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. 1 Peter 3:7
  • Out of God's will
    This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14
  • Unconfessed sin
    But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:2
  • Wrong motives
    When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3

Spiritual Warfare Prayer

As the Sword of the Spirit is for hand-to-hand combat, prayer is like strategic artillery in spiritual warfare. Prayer foils the schemes of the enemy (Satan, his angels and evil people) and call forth God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Warfare prayer is best developed and honed through continuous use. Examples of warfare prayers are noted below:

  • Intercessory prayer: Interceding on another's behalf with God
  • Praying God's Word/ Using the Sword of the Spirit
  • Praying for protection and defeat of evil
  • Prayer to bind forces of evil
  • Prayers for strength in battle
  • Prayer and anointing with oil
  • Prayer in the Spirit: Prayer in the Spirit is a type of prayer that can be very effective in spiritual warfare...especially when we do not know exactly what we are facing and how to pray about it. Paul encouraged Christians to pray always in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18).
  • Prayer while fasting: Fasting is a tool that was often used by people in the Bible. Fasting is a tool by which we can humble ourselves before God and grow in spiritual power to accomplish His work. Bible examples of the combination of fasting and prayer show impressive results.
